The IAHP is a professional organization representing licensed primary care physicians—including Medical Doctors, Osteopaths, Chiropractors, and Naturopaths—who specialize in medically supervised water-only fasting as an essential component of comprehensive health care. Founded in 1978, the IAHP established an Internship Program leading to Certification in Fasting Supervision, ensuring high standards of education, training, and clinical practice.

Certification in Fasting Supervision |
Becoming a General MemberMembership is open to physicians who graduate from any bona fide, accredited Medical, Osteopathic, Chiropractic, or Naturopathic school. Graduate students currently enrolled in these institutions are eligible for the duration of their studies.
The Association supports physicians who specialize in medically supervised fasting, supporting their ongoing education and collaboration through professional meetings. |
In order to obtain certification in fasting supervision, a member in good standing must successfully complete a minimum six-month Internship/Residency, or its equivalent, at a fasting institution approved by the Association for training purposes.
At present, certification training is available exclusively under the direction of Alan Goldhamer, D.C., at TrueNorth Health Center.
